Meeting Highlights: 

  • Veterans Services budget discussed, Emergency management budget approved

  • Commissioner Branch presents detailed opioid abatement program proposal to submit to Opioid Council for receipt of settlement funds, Commissioner Hover prioritizes funding existing county programs with these in hopes of shoring up county’s $400,000 budget shortfall, intense discussion ensues

  • District Court judge seeks funds for probation officers and drug testing; few probation officer fees or traffic fines coming in; could drug tests be done with coroner’s Randox machine? Commissioner Hover wonders about having a traffic officer, and using opioid settlement funds toward probation officer salaries; discussion on high cost of electronic home monitoring devices people should pay for themselves but can’t

  • Law book budget allocated $15,000; even paperbacks cost up to $1,200 each. Commissioner Branch likens this to monopolies held by land lines.

  • Long lines for voting in auditor’s office suggest some mistrust in state’s long-time mail-in voting system

  • Public controversy over sheriff vehicle “wrap” featuring tribute to veterans

  • Meeting adjourned at 4:51
