Meeting Highlights:
Stanley Myers, Interim Director, Office of Public Defense, tells the commissioners that the office is now on the right track. The two problem employees have doing much better. Myers himself is working on getting older cases moving forward. He would like to try to get at least one vacancy in the office filled in the coming year.
Commissioner Hover tells the others about cuts to the budget he’ll propose to the departments. That gets the deficit down to $1,700,000, not including the Road Fund deficit. The commissions again say they should hold a meeting in the Agriplex to explain the budget situation, their proposed cuts, and answer questions from the audience.
Shelley Keitzman, Human Resources and Risk Management, says the county’s payment to the risk pool will rise 35-40% next year, approximately $300,000. She will have solid numbers next week.
Bethany Al-Haidari, Executive Director of Sage Advocacy Center in Wenatchee, describes the services the center can provide to the county—trained forensic interviewers to conduct interviews with minors. Such interviewers are now required by state law. Sage asks for $42,643 for an initial contract.
