Meeting Highlights:
The commissioners, the treasurer, auditor and the finance manager have the monthly Finance Committee meeting.Commissioner Hover proposes using money from the LATCF (Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Fund) to help with shortfalls in the 2026 budget, knowing there will be cuts in the 2027 budget. This would help with functionality and give everyone a heads-up.
The committee discusses the possibility of a levy lid lift in an upcoming election to help fund expected shortfalls in the county's Roads Budget.
Auditor Cari Hall explains how the outcome of the levy issues on the August 8 ballot are decided.
Commissioners Hover and Neal discuss difficulties balancing the budget during a time of rising costs but little rise in tax revenue.
During his weekly update, County Engineer Josh Thomas talks about budget cutting solutions Public Works has considered. The commissioners consider the possibility of holding a public meeting to explain the need for the levy lid lift to pay for increased road maintenance costs. Also, the county adopts the new Six-Year Transportation Improvement Plan.
