Meeting Highlights: 

  • Sarah Spence renews her offer to the county to donate land and a building for a dog shelter along with policies and procedures she’ll work out to administer the dog shelter.

  • The commissioners and Pete Palmer, Director of Planning, discuss preliminary floodplain maps from FEMA and the Washington Department of Ecology. They may hold public meetings with FEMA and the DOE so the public can weigh in on the maps before they’re formally adopted.

  • Kelly Edwards, the facilitator of the Okanogan County Coalition for Health Improvement, Maria Hines, Blue Sky Minds, and the commissioners discuss problems facing county youth. Commissioner Hover cites changes in drug laws and the lack of apprenticeships for trades are contributing to hopelessness among some county young people.

  • Meeting adjourned at 11:05.
