The Methow Watershed Council presented two films and a discussion, led by Council member, Greg Knott, on the process for setting instream flows.

Methow Watershed Council

9/18/19 - Water 2066 presentation.   The Methow Watershed Council presented their first public outreach on their Water 2066 project.  This project addresses the following questions: How do we see our valley fifty years from now? How do we envision the future of agriculture? Tourist services? Growth? How do we proceed and honor our commitments to fish and wildlife?  The presentation can be viewed on our YouTube Channel.  The power point that was presented can be viewed here.

May 2, 2019 - The Methow Watershed Council had three public presentations on some of their latest projects. This video is from the Twisp presentation on May 2, 2019. To go to the section you are interested in, click on the time stamp:
02:30 - Water Accounting Project. Mike Fort discusses the on-going project to collect accurate data regarding water usage in the Methow Valley

 January 17, 2019 - Public Meeting on how regulations impact wells in closed basins.  Presentation by Trevor Hutton from DOE, followed by Q & A from audience.  Issues addressed are existing wells, drilling of future wells, compensation for loss of property value, how closed basins are defined, what mitigation options are being considered, and how the Comprehensive Plan can be used to help with planning.  Click here to go to the YouTube video of the meeting.

Okanogan County Hearing Examiner

July 11, 2019 - Hearing Examiner listens to three applications:
00:01 - Hearing examiner Dan Beardslee welcomes everyone and gives basic instructions.
03:44 - First case is heard. Appeal to a stop work order issue by the County to Mark C. Miller (former member of County Planning Commission). regarding property near Danzl Road in the Lower Methow. Planning Director gives his reasons for the order, followed by Mark Miller.
31:00 - Second case is heard. Application to allow variance on setback requirements for a single family residence in Gold Creek.
37:55 - Third case is heard. Application for a long plat, Eastlake Shores, in the Oroville area.

The new County Comprehensive Plan Draft is now in the hands of the county's Planning Commission.  They have been reviewing it section by section. On Monday, 2/3/2020 they adjourned at line 318, Water Goals and Policies,  and are expected to resume at that point in the next meeting (2/24/2020.)   A notated copy of the draft as of 2/3/20 is posted to the left.

The Planning Commission continued  discussion and editing of the draft Comprehensive Plan “Vision Statement,” approving the final editing of this section by vote of the Commission.  Interim Director Hubbard displayed her initial work on reorganization of the Comprehensive Plan for understandability and compliance with legal directives at the request of the Commission. Members of the  Commission expressed appreciation for the direction she is taking and continued to discuss and refine sections on Wildfire and on Critical Area Goals and Policies.  The next Planning Commission meeting is set for November 18th, 2019, during which session the Commission will return to editing, with a goal of completing the Critical Areas section.

The Regional Planning Commission starts their work on revising the Comprehensive plan.  Topics include the vision statement, planning for fire safety and general organization of the document.  Click here to view the video.

The Okanogan County Regional Planning Commission discusses the recent public comments that were submitted regarding the DEIS and the Comprehensive Plan. County Commissioner Branch and Interim Planning Director Angela Hubbard were invited to answer questions from the Planning Commissioners on how to approach the task of revising the draft Comp plan and EIS.

Okanogan Water Conservancy Board

Okanogan Water Conservancy Board meeting March 6, 2019.  Video only, available on our You Tube Channel.
Discussion regarding the ongoing application for water rights transfer by the Lundgren family. Members of the Lundgren family were present and addressed the Board, as well as shareholders of the Chewuck Canal Company, who are concerned about the impact the transfer may have on their access to water.

​This video covers the part of the Okanogan County Water Conservancy Board meeting that deals with the proposed Lundgren water rights sale in the Methow Valley.
The Board heard public comments, and statements from attorneys for the Lundgren family and the Chewuch Canal Company.

The WA State Transportation Commission toured Okanogan County and held a public meeting in Twisp on May 14th, 2019.  There was an introduction by the Deputy Commissioner, followed by comments from the mayors of Twisp and Winthrop, comments from County Commissioner Hover, and County Engineer Thompson.  The Executive Director of Twisp Works gave a report, as did Mayor Moody (Twisp), speaking as a representative of the RTPO (Regional Transportation Planning Organization).  The discussion turned to the primitive road study, and concluded with public comments from three local citizens.
